NEW DELHI: This is a sure shot acknowledgement of the rising power of the fairer sex in Corporate India. Industry chamber Assocham is planning to reserve some of its top posts for women professionals and entrepreneurs from the corporate world.The chamber, which will hold an extra-ordinary general meeting (EGM) on Tuesday — plans to take up the matter with its members at the EGM.
Sources said Assocham plans to induct more women leaders to head some of its industry committees, particularly related to finance and insurance sectors.
"Some top posts may be reserved for women professionals and entrepreneurs. We feel this would acknowledge the growing power of women in the corporate world and also reflect how more women are breaking the glass ceiling in India Inc. The matter will be taken up at the EGM and responses would be sought from existing members," a source said.Assocham secretary general DS Rawat confirmed the move saying: "The chamber already has a large number of women workforce. In fact, in the officer cadre alone, Assocham has men-women ratio of 40:60. Now, we intend to induct women in some of the top posts as well."Alongside, the chamber will also seek its members' nod to induct 48 new firms and associations as its members at the EGM. These include 14 new patron members like Nicholas Piramal, Bank Of Baroda, Trident, Gitanjali Gems, Assam Company Ltd, Mahindra World City and Cosmos Industries, among others. Besides, 34 others — including AR Airways, Emirates Shipping Agencies, JK Business School, IDC India, Jindal Global Finance Investment Ltd, Sutherland Global Services and Zoom Developers — would be inducted as Corporate Associates."This would be the first time when such a large number of corporate members are being added at one go," a source added.At a recent EGM, the chamber had amended its Memorandum of Articles of Association facilitating formation of four independent institutions — Brand India, Alternate Dispute Resolution Council, Counterfeit Cell and Social Development Cell.
